$160k - $190kJob is LiveStart: 30 Oct 2026Permanent

  • Location: Sydney North Shore

  • Position Type: Full-Time Permanent (Approx. 70% hands-on engineering / 30% team leadership)

  • Industry: Advanced Connected Devices & Remote Technology

About the Opportunity

Are you a hands-on hardware engineering leader who loves building rugged, reliable connected systems that make a genuine real-world impact?

Our client is a fast-scaling, award-winning Australian technology pioneer transforming how remote infrastructure and environmental management systems operate across Australia and the United States. They are seeking an accomplished Engineering Lead to own the technical delivery of their next-generation hardware roadmap.

In this dynamic, dual-focus role, you will spend roughly 70% of your time doing what you love—designing, prototyping, testing, and certifying cutting-edge electronics—while spending the remaining 30% leading and mentoring a talented small team of four engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hands-On Design & Development (70%): Define system architectures, lead schematic capture and PCB layout (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad), and handle board bring-up, debugging, and bench testing.

  • Low-Power & RF Innovation: Architect remote, battery-, and solar-powered smart devices integrating advanced sensor, satellite, and cellular communications.

  • Compliance & Certification: Own end-to-end regulatory compliance and certifications (such as RCM/ACMA, FCC, carrier/satellite network approvals, and electrical safety).

  • Manufacturing & Supply Chain: Apply DFM/DFT principles, work directly with international contract manufacturers, and manage component lifecycles and quality assurance.

  • Team Leadership & Strategy (30%): Lead, support, and mentor a team of four engineers, drive project roadmaps, manage R&D budgets, and report directly to executive leadership.

What You Will Bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electronics Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.

  • Proven track record of taking complex commercial electronics and connected products from concept through to volume production.

  • Deep expertise in embedded systems, microcontrollers, power management, and sensor interfacing.

  • Hands-on experience navigating compliance and certification processes (EMC, radio, safety) with test labs and certifiers.

  • A collaborative leadership style that empowers engineers, sets clear priorities, and fosters professional growth.

  • Desirable: Exposure to RF/wireless tech (LTE-M, NB-IoT, LoRa), ruggedized outdoor enclosures, or mechanical CAD (SolidWorks).

Why Join?

  • High-Impact Innovation: Work on market-leading connected solutions deployed across global operational markets.

  • Culture & Growth: Join a collaborative, agile, and fast-moving team where your ideas directly shape future product evolution.

  • Perks: Modern head office environment featuring on-site parking and regular team events.
